The Afghan Hound is one of the oldest hunting breeds in the world. People often say that this dog has an appearance that feels both retro and fashionable, together with a very noble temperament, so it is often called the aristocrat among dogs. The Afghan Hound is a large breed, standing about 64 to 67 centimeters tall and weighing around 25 to 30 kilograms. As its name suggests, it originally comes from Afghanistan. Many admirers are also amazed by its mouth and teeth, saying that such a beautiful bite and well-shaped mouth are rare among dogs. People often wonder why nature favored this breed so much: not only giving it a silken coat, but also such a delicate face and elegant mouth. If dogs could feel jealousy, one might ask whether any dog would even want to stand next to an Afghan Hound, since they would all seem like mere background decoration.
The Afghan Hound seems to know that its coat is rare and that it is beautiful, because it usually avoids muddy pits or dirty places. It values its own appearance. Its intelligence is not high, yet it is also not the kind of dog that studies hard or works eagerly. Teaching it skills takes effort. Even so, its appearance alone has won it a great many admirers.
The Afghan Hound is naturally proud and often does not show even basic respect, sometimes not even toward its owner. Owners often joke that if they call it ten times, eight of those times it will act as though it heard nothing. That is one of the frustrations of raising this breed: getting such a self-important dog to obey takes a great deal of effort.
