How to train an English Bulldog to use the toilet is a problem that troubles many people. In fact, the method is similar to that used with many other breeds. The essential principle is to bring the dog to the right place at the right time and reward correct elimination behavior.

1. The right time
Like people, English Bulldogs have their own daily patterns. At the beginning of training, the owner should record the dog's schedule for several days and look for??: the dog is usually more likely to eliminate after waking up, eating, and drinking. If the dog suddenly starts circling or sniffing the floor intensely, it is very likely about to go.
2. The right place
The correct toilet location is simply the place where you want the English Bulldog to eliminate. Dogs naturally prefer not to urinate or defecate where they eat and sleep, so do not set the toilet area too close to the dog bed or food. Once the place is chosen, such as the bathroom, it should not be changed casually. Cover the area with old newspaper. If the English Bulldog eliminates on the paper, praise it immediately and keep pointing to the paper so the dog can smell it. Then gradually reduce the area covered by newspaper, but no matter how much you reduce it, always leave one piece carrying the dog's urine scent.

3. Do not be stingy with rewards
As long as the English Bulldog eliminates in the place you require, do not hesitate to reward it. A small treat and verbal praise can significantly improve the success rate of the training.
4. Important precautions
If the English Bulldog is caught eliminating in the wrong place, stop it immediately and take it to the correct toilet location so it understands where it should go. But never shout in blind anger or use violence. Some dogs, trying to avoid punishment, may even start eating their own stool to hide the evidence. During the heat period, female Bulldogs may temporarily have accidents in different places. In that case, do not panic. It does not mean the earlier training failed. Simply correct the behavior promptly and continue.

Usually, after several rounds of repeated practice, an English Bulldog can develop good toilet habits. Puppyhood is the best stage for this type of training. If the dog is already an adult, the owner will simply need more patience and more gradual guidance.
