Calcium is indispensable for the growth of a Teddy. When raising one, owners need to make sure the dog's diet is nutritionally balanced and not limited to only one kind of food. A monotonous diet is one of the biggest disadvantages in feeding pet dogs.
A Teddy is not a large dog. From birth until weaning, Teddy puppies generally do not need additional calcium, because breast milk already contains plenty of nutrients, including calcium. After about forty days, the puppy is weaned. Before three months of age, it is usually best to feed dog food, because kibble is relatively gentle on the stomach and the puppy's digestive system still needs time to adapt. In addition, dog food usually provides a balanced nutrient profile that can meet a Teddy's needs.
During the growth stage, the body develops quickly and requires more nutrition. At that point, owners generally have two options: continue feeding dog food, or prepare homemade food. If the Teddy eats dog food, extra calcium is usually unnecessary, because it is a small breed and does not require much calcium. The calcium already present in dog food is normally enough. Extra calcium is more often needed in medium and large breeds. If you make food yourself, then the question becomes more complex, because you must consider vitamins, calcium, minerals, protein, and the overall balance of nutrient absorption.
As a reminder, if your Teddy eats dog food, it usually does not need calcium tablets. If the dog is on homemade meals, you can ask a veterinarian how much calcium supplementation is appropriate. Daily walks and some sunlight are also helpful, because they support calcium absorption and help keep the dog healthier.
