While that may not mean much compared with the North American gray wolf, it is certainly an intimidating opponent for local wolves in Tibet. In ancient times, Tibetan Mastiffs were also sometimes used as fighting dogs, and legends even claim they fought lions, tigers, and leopards. Whether those stories are true or not, pure Tibetan Mastiffs are undeniably known for being good fighters and for having quick reactions despite their size.
Of course, many people hold different opinions and will point instead to the Pit Bull, which is another breed that should not be underestimated. If the comparison is about smell or guarding ability, the Pit Bull may not stand out. But if we talk strictly about fighting ability, many people believe the Pit Bull is not inferior to the Tibetan Mastiff at all, because the Pit Bull was specifically created for combat and comes from crosses involving Staffordshire-type dogs and Bulldogs.
Characteristics of the Pit Bull
The Pit Bull is about 20 centimeters shorter than the Tibetan Mastiff and much smaller overall, but it is said to make up for that with agility and adaptability. Another often-cited feature is its supposed resistance to pain. Supporters claim that when a Pit Bull fights, it may keep going for up to two hours without?? pain response, almost as if it were wearing armor. In that sense, no matter how hard it is hit, it continues fighting as though it does not feel much pain.
Which Is Stronger, the Pit Bull or the Tibetan Mastiff?
When a Pit Bull bites another breed, it is often claimed that it can inflict fatal damage directly because of its extremely strong bite force, sometimes said to exceed even that of the Tibetan Mastiff. So although the Pit Bull is smaller in body size, many people believe that in a fight where pain tolerance matters, it could still defeat a Tibetan Mastiff.
