The Kunming Dog is not only a good companion for family life, but is also widely used in military and police work. The breed is highly intelligent, so training is generally easier than with many other dogs. Even so, owners still need to stay patient when training during puppyhood. Below are several useful Kunming Dog training methods.

Training the Kunming Dog to come back
You can train the recall command while taking the dog outside for walks. If you call it and it comes immediately, praise it at once. If it does not come or runs away, wait a little and call again. In daily life, you should gradually build the habit of letting the dog move freely while still staying within about ten meters of you. This helps the dog form a good habit of staying aware of the owner.
Training the Kunming Dog to sit
At first, the command “sit” has no meaning for the dog, so you need to gently press down on the rear body with your hand while giving the verbal command. Keep doing this until the dog can understand and sit quietly. When it performs well, use small treats as a reward.

Training the Kunming Dog to shake hands
Only start this after the dog is already very familiar with the sit command and action. Once it is sitting quietly, gently lift one paw while giving the verbal cue for shaking hands. Repeat this until the dog understands the cue and offers the paw on command. Train every day, but do not rush. Trying to teach several actions before the previous one is understood is one of the biggest mistakes in training.
Training the Kunming Dog to lie down
If you want to train the dog to lie down, find a quiet place. Once it is sitting calmly, gently pull the front legs forward into a lying posture. As long as the dog normally trusts the owner, this command becomes easier to teach. Pat it and praise it while training.

Training the Kunming Dog to stand
Use your hand to help the dog stand upright with all four feet on the ground, while giving the command “stand” and a matching hand signal. Keep the position for ten to fifteen seconds, then release. If the dog stays standing, prepare its favorite food in the other hand as a reward. Repeat this process until the dog stands as soon as it hears the command and sees the signal.
Training the Kunming Dog to use a fixed toilet area
Place an item carrying the dog's urine smell in the designated toilet area at home, so it understands that this is the correct place to relieve itself. Put objects there that already carry familiar scents. When the dog does it correctly, praise and encourage it. If it makes a mistake, correct it firmly. Once the location is set, try not to change it casually.
