Feeding a wolfdog puppy is much more difficult than feeding an adult dog. The diet should be small in quantity but high in quality, with nutritious and easily digestible food. The feeding schedule and frequency are also very different from those of an adult dog.
Correct feeding amount
A wolfdog puppy around 25 days old still relies mainly on mother’s milk, but it may occasionally try to eat from the mother dog’s food bowl. At this stage, the owner should adjust the mother’s food as well. It is recommended to soften the dog food with warm water before feeding it to the mother. This not only helps the mother digest it more easily, but also reduces the risk of indigestion if the puppies eat some of the same food.

Generally speaking, when a wolfdog puppy reaches about 40 days old, it can be weaned. From this point on, the owner needs to take full responsibility for feeding the puppy. Keep in mind that the digestive system is still not fully developed, so the food must be balanced, nutritious, and easy to digest. Small, frequent meals are best, and feeding four to five times a day is recommended. Food can include puppy kibble softened with warm water, or puppy milk powder mixed with softened kibble.

Feeding frequency for a wolfdog puppy
When the wolfdog puppy is around 40 days to two months old, the owner should follow the principle of feeding small meals frequently, about four to five times a day, with equal intervals between meals so the puppy can digest the food properly.
After the puppy reaches three months old, the owner can gradually add some dry food to the diet. This helps with tooth development, while the feeding frequency can stay the same for the time being.

Once the wolfdog puppy grows to about six months old, the feeding frequency and amount should be adjusted again. Three meals a day are recommended, with each meal being about eighty percent full. After the dog becomes an adult, feeding can be reduced to twice a day, still keeping the dog about eighty percent full. As the puppy grows, the owner should also add calcium and other nutrients in time to support healthy physical development.
The main principles of feeding a wolfdog puppy are small portions, nutritious and digestible food, and frequent meals. As the dog grows, the food ratio and feeding routine should be adjusted gradually.
