Some people may not realize that the German Shepherd is the same dog often called the German Black Back or German Wolfdog. In fact, most people are familiar with the breed even if they do not know the formal name. It is often praised as the king of dogs, which says a lot about its commanding presence. Many people are already raising one, but do you really know how to feed it properly? If you are not sure, the following points are worth learning.

First: Choose Dog Food Correctly
Feeding commercial dog food is probably the most common approach, because many people do not know what else to feed or how to prepare food properly. Ready made dog food is simple and saves effort. However, not all dog food is the same. Some formulas are not especially well designed and contain many additives. Even if a brand is high quality, feeding the same product every day can still become monotonous, much like a person eating only instant noodles no matter how good they are. So in addition to good quality dog food, owners can also give leafy vegetables, carrots, and fruit in moderation. However, white radish should be avoided because it can make dogs hiccup repeatedly.
Some people feel sorry for their German Shepherd and therefore share whatever they themselves are eating, such as chocolate, biscuits, or sausage. There are dog specific biscuits and sausages that can be offered in moderation, but they should not become a constant habit or the dog may become picky. Snacks generally taste better than normal food, and over time the dog may stop wanting proper meals. This can eventually cause malnutrition, weight loss, or obesity.
One thing must be remembered clearly: chocolate must never be given to a German Shepherd, especially very dark or concentrated chocolate. It contains stimulating substances that can make the dog overexcited, increase the heart rate, and even lead to shock in weaker animals. This is extremely important.

Second: Feed in the Correct Way
People often say that for health, one should not eat too much at every meal. The same principle applies when feeding a German Shepherd. Do not let the dog eat until it is overly full each time. Overfeeding increases the burden on the stomach and intestines, can lead to indigestion, and may contribute to gastritis or other digestive problems. If the dogs exercise level is not high enough, overfeeding can also cause obesity.
So when feeding a German Shepherd, do not think that limiting the amount is unkind. In fact, it is the opposite. Portion control is part of caring for the dogs health. If you truly like the breed, it is worth spending time to learn how to feed it correctly, including how much it should eat at each meal and over the course of a day.
