To raise a dog well, you need to understand its habits. One practical question is how often a Chow Chow should be fed. Should it eat three times a day like a person, twice a day, or only once for convenience?

After a Chow Chow reaches adulthood, two meals a day is generally the best arrangement, one in the morning and one later in the day. The evening meal can be given at night, but it should not be too late. If a dog eats very late, it may interfere with digestion and can also lead to obesity. In addition, many dogs do not understand the idea of being full and will overeat if given the chance, which is not healthy in the long term.
If the owner goes to work every day, it is a good idea to prepare some food before leaving in the morning so the dog has something available during the day, and then provide another meal after coming home in the evening. A walk after dinner also fits well into that routine. If a retired person is at home most of the day, feeding once around midday may be possible in some cases, but if two meals are preferred, around nine in the morning and three or four in the afternoon can work well.

If the Chow Chow is not yet fully grown, it should usually be fed four to five times a day. At this stage the puppy is still developing and needs nutrition, but each meal should remain small because the stomach capacity is limited and overfeeding is hard on digestion. In that sense, a puppy is somewhat like a small baby that needs food more frequently, and owners should not feel the extra effort is unnecessary.

Apart from the young puppy stage, two meals a day are enough for most periods of a Chow Chow's life. Feeding more than that often does more harm than good. It is also important to teach good eating habits from an early age: regular timing and measured portions save the owner trouble and support healthy growth.
