The Samoyed is a very beautiful dog, and even in a crowd of many dogs it is easy to recognize immediately. At the same time, however, it is not considered an especially easy breed to train. Samoyeds are gentle, people-oriented, and lively, but they are not always obedient. Training them requires more effort than many first-time owners expect, and it is best to be mentally prepared for that.
Samoyed personality traits
The Samoyed has a very striking appearance: a strong body without being troublesome, a snow-white coat, a smiling face, and black intelligent eyes. It is one of the most beautiful dog breeds in the eyes of many people. Samoyeds are physically strong and fast, and although they can be excellent watchdogs, they are also gentle and friendly. They do not like to cause trouble, but they do know how to maintain their own position.
Many modern families like keeping Samoyeds because they usually help preserve harmony with neighbors. Although Samoyeds are strong dogs, they do not normally pick quarrels with others, whether that means people or other pets. When encountering others, they often remain calm and polite. Training a Samoyed
In fact, the Samoyed is a relatively smart breed and is often placed around the middle range in canine intelligence rankings. Owners should still pay close attention to training methods. If the methods are correct, a Samoyed can be trained fairly well. It often helps to prepare some reward food such as small sausages or other tasty treats. Of course, training is not only about rewards. Young Samoyeds, like children, are playful and often naughty. Even with excellent training, however, a Samoyed is unlikely to become the kind of dog that masters large numbers of complex skills or advanced commands in the way that breeds like Golden Retrievers or Labradors often can. You may train for a long time and the Samoyed may still respond with nothing more than a cheerful smile. For many owners, that is not a problem at all, because they are drawn to the breed mainly for its beauty and personality. In practice, it is usually enough to make sure the Samoyed learns the basics such as toileting and proper mealtime habits.
