1. Keep the dog warm
If a dog catches a chill, it may develop symptoms such as coughing and a runny nose. Seasonal changes, sudden drops in temperature, long stays in air-conditioned rooms, or direct exposure to fans can all lead to a cold.
The first thing the owner should do is keep the dog warm and prevent it from being exposed to wind again. Place the bed away from drafts and add a blanket so the dog can rest comfortably. With good rest for two or three days, some dogs recover on their own. If warming measures do not help, more support will be needed so the coughing and nasal discharge do not worsen.
2. Use appropriate cold-support products
If there is no improvement after warming the dog, owners may consider giving a pet cold-support product designed for dogs. Read the instructions carefully and use the correct dose. Afterward, let the dog rest quietly.
If the cold seems more serious, some owners also combine treatment with antibiotics such as amoxicillin granules, but dosage must be handled carefully and it is best to use such medication under veterinary guidance.
3. Improve nutrition and resistance
Providing good nutrition is very important for a sick dog, because it helps support the immune system and recovery. After a dog catches a cold, offer more nutritious food. Vegetables and fruits can help provide vitamins, and properly cooked lean meat such as chicken or pork can also be given in moderate amounts. Most pet dogs enjoy meat, and boiled meat without seasoning is generally a better choice than rich or irritating food.
