1. Ear Care
A dog's ears are delicate and sensitive. In particular, the Shih Tzu's ears are covered by long hair, which reduces ventilation and makes them easy to get dirty, so they need careful and attentive care.
When cleaning the ear canal, gently insert a cotton swab or a clamp wrapped with absorbent cotton into the dog's ear and rotate it slowly to clean. A small amount of ear-cleaning liquid can be dropped in and massaged lightly before cleaning. Be careful not to injure the inside of the ear.
2. Eye Care
It is often said that dogs with large eyes are especially likely to get dust in them.
If dust enters the eye, hold the dog's head upward and apply eye drops. Lift the eyelid gently with your fingers and place one or two drops inside.
If the areas made wet by tears are ignored, tear staining or so-called tear burn may develop, with red or sagging hair and skin around the eyes. If the area around the eyes becomes wet from tears, wipe it dry with a towel.
3. Dental Care
If food residue and tartar are ignored, periodontal disease can easily develop, which may then lead to internal organ disease and damage overall health. Dental care once or twice a week is essential.
4. Paw and Nail Care
A dog's nails grow inward in a curved way. If they are not trimmed, they may grow into the paw pads and cause inflammation. Nails that are too long also make walking difficult. The longer the nails get, the longer the blood vessels at the base will grow, so trimming early is better.
When trimming nails, be careful not to cut into the nerves and blood vessels near the base. Trim just before the pink area where the vessels are visible.
5. Coat Care
Before washing a pet dog, always brush the coat first to remove dirt and tangles. Use a round-tipped comb first, then follow with a regular comb. If you find mats, loosen them carefully with your fingers.
Notes:
Before bathing, brush through the lower layer of the coat so that the long hair does not felt once it becomes wet.
In addition to bathing, every day you should use absorbent cotton dipped in boiled water to wipe the eyes, nose, and muzzle, keeping the face clean.
